Wednesday, April 28th will be a day that will remain special to the GACS family for years to come.

When His Excellency President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda arrived on campus with his motorcade of vehicles, the crowd of students, from Kindergarten through grade twelve, cheered and waved the flags of their country and his. A spirit of compassion and partnership filled the air.

Over 1900 students joined teachers, staff, parents, and visiting dignitaries in welcoming President Kagame to our campus. The senior high drum line played to the excitement and the young Spartans sang “I’m a Small Part of the World” in perfect, heart-warming unison.

Students at GACS learned of President Kagame’s leadership role in peace building, human rights, and the advancement of education. His Excellency has been decorated with numerous awards, among which are: the Children’s Champion Award – U.S. Fund for UNICEF, 2009; The International Peace Medal – Saddleback Church, 2009; and the International Peace Medal / Honorary Law Degree – University of Glasglow, 2007.

GACS was one of only four stops for President Kagame while in the United States. The reason for this is that he shares a dream with our school, a dream for an excellent, value-enriched education for all young people.

The leaders of Greater Atlanta Christian School and President Kagame are working together to realize a plan to commit a sizable piece of land inside or near Kigali, Rwanda for a sister campus of GACS, currently being called CASE (Central African School of Excellence).

Rwanda is a key part of our school’s Remarkable Steps Ahead Strategic Plan, involving an on-going, global connection of GACS students with students around the world, in addition to the creation of this Rwandan campus.

A campus tour and luncheon completed President Kagame’s visit on that special day in April. Throughout his visit, His Excellency expressed his excitement concerning the partnership with GACS. He repeated, “We will be back!”
